These terms cover your use of the CareBite app and website. By using CareBite you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the app.

CareBite is an aid, not a medical device. It reads ingredient data from public databases and from labels you photograph, and compares that text against the profiles you set up. That data can be incomplete, wrong, or out of date, and manufacturers change recipes without notice. Always read the printed label before eating, and never rely on CareBite alone for a decision that affects health. A result of "no flags found" means only that we found nothing matching your profile in the text available — it is never a statement that a product is safe.

Who can use CareBite

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live. An adult may create profiles for children in their household.

Accounts

An account is optional. If you create one, keep access to the email address you used — sign-in codes go there. You are responsible for activity under your account. You can delete it at any time from Settings.

Free and paid features

CareBite offers a free tier with a monthly scan allowance, and a paid subscription for unlimited scanning and additional features. Prices, the billing period, and what each tier includes are shown in the app before you buy.

Subscriptions are billed through the App Store or Google Play and renew automatically until cancelled.
Cancel any time in your store account; cancellation stops the next renewal and does not shorten the period you have paid for.
Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy, not by us.
Use Restore Purchases in Settings to recover a subscription on a new device.

Contributed labels

If you submit an ingredient label you photographed, you allow us and other users to use that text to check products. Submit only what is printed on the packaging, and do not submit anything that identifies you. We may remove contributions that look inaccurate.

Acceptable use

Do not use CareBite to give dietary or medical advice to others as though it were professional advice.
Do not attempt to overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service.
Do not submit false label data — other people rely on it.

Third-party data

Product information comes from Open Food Facts, recall information from openFDA, and Assistant answers are generated by Anthropic's Claude. We do not control these sources and cannot guarantee their accuracy or availability.

Liability

CareBite is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from reliance on results shown in the app, from incomplete or incorrect third-party data, or from service interruptions. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows when. Continuing to use CareBite after a change means you accept the updated terms.
